Hello and Welcome! We are a family owned business. My husband Monte, our daughter Emily and son Tommy and I created this store from an idea and worked together from the remodel of the building through the development of the business. You can always find any one of us helping customers in the store. Here’s our story.
Monte loves to wear hats. He wanted to buy a hat and looked everywhere, with no luck, to find one. Being of a creative, enthusiastic spirit, we decided to open a hat store. While on vacation back home in Indiana, Emily bought Daddy MO a Life is good PB&J T-shirt. (To this day is still his favorite T-Shirt.) We really liked the Life is good line and upon researching the company, discovered we shared similar views about life and optimism. We decided to carry the entire Life is good line at Copacetic.
We chose the name Copacetic because it means “Everything is satisfactory, all is in order, life is good!” Everything is Copacetic is a phrase previous generations who wore hats would say when expressing that everything is as it should be. We also felt it was a good name for a downtown shop. Emily came up with “Look Good Feel Happy” as our tag line because she thought that is how our customers would feel when shopping at Copacetic. So far she’s been right!
Our product line has grown to include hats and caps for the whole family in many fashions for every season. We also now carry accessories of belts, neck ties, wallets, sunglasses, socks, sandals, dog treats and shampoos, band-less earmuffs, scarves and mittens and an exclusive line of Racine t-shirts and coffee mugs.
We had our grand opening on July 2, 2004. We’ve learned a lot since then, mostly that we love our customers and want to treat them such that they will want to come back again and again. We love downtown Racine (located between Chicago and Milwaukee near the best beach on all the Great Lakes). Our family is very active in making events happen with our business neighbors in Racine’s downtown. Downtown Racine is vibrant and has a lot to offer to a population that longs as much for relationship as good merchandise. There is a strong sense of community between the merchants and our customers. All are welcome!
